Removing apps

ClearMac moves an app and its leftover files to the Trash. macOS protects apps from being changed by other apps, so the first time you remove one, you may need to allow ClearMac.

“macOS blocked removing this app”

1. Open System Settings and go to Privacy & Security ▸ App Management.
2. Turn on ClearMac. If it isn't in the list, click + and choose it from your Applications folder.
3. Go back to ClearMac and try again.

“ClearMac isn't allowed to control Finder”

Some apps, such as ones installed from the App Store, need an administrator password to remove. ClearMac asks Finder to move those to the Trash, so Finder can ask for the password, exactly as when you drag the app to the Trash yourself.

1. Open System Settings and go to Privacy & Security ▸ Automation.
2. Under ClearMac, turn on Finder.
3. Try again, and enter your password when Finder asks.

Apps ClearMac won't remove

• Apps that are running. Quit the app first.
• Apps that come with macOS, such as Safari or Mail. macOS doesn't allow removing them.
• ClearMac itself. To remove it, drag it from Applications to the Trash.

Changed your mind?

Removed apps go to the Trash with their leftovers. Undo, or put them back from History, until you empty the Trash.
